Mackenzie Flint receives Good Citizen’s Award

Each year a Vergennes Union High School senior is chosen for the DAR Good Citizen’s Award.

No. 11 Vergennes Union High School boys’ soccer drew a familiar foe in the Division III playoffs this past Wednesday, Oct. 25: No. 6 Fair Haven. 

The Vergennes Union High School girls’ soccer team won one Division III playoff game before falling to the top seed in closely contested quarterfinal.

In an interview with the Independent, Silas Mullin explained his desire to serve in the Peace Corps, which is in the process of rebuilding its strength abroad after recalling all its volunteers early in the COVID pandemic. 

The Mount Abraham Union High School girls’ soccer team scored early and often in Tuesday’s home game on the way to an 8-1 victory over visiting local rival Vergennes.

In a hard-fought girls’ soccer match on this past Saturday, Middlebury outlasted Vergennes in the Commodores’ homecoming game, 2-1. 

Tiger boys’ cross-country team held off runners from Burr & Burton, VUHS and Mount Abe in a meet in Middlebury on Friday. The Tiger girls had the race winner but lost the team scoring.

Soggy conditions didn’t slow down Middlebury runners noticeably at a cross-country meet hosted by the Mount Abraham Union High School team on Tuesday afternoon. 

In most cases youth will both be served by — and serve — the Vergennes Union High School teams this fall.

Host Green Mountain Valley on Sept. 1 prevailed over the Vergennes Union High School boys’ soccer team, 2-1 in double overtime in the season opener for both teams.
