The Addison Independent publishes a weekly community calendar both in print and online. If you have an item you would like to include, there are a number of criteria we ask you to follow:
- This is a community calendar, by which we mean it is reserved for events accessible to all community members and happening in the Addison Independent coverage area, including:

- Non-profit organization events (ie. museum open houses and exhibits, arts performances, free lectures, historical society events)
- Community fundraisers (ie. club-sponsored meals such as VFW fish fries, Lions chicken barbeques, etc.), church fundraisers (Bingo, church suppers, rummage sales, scholarship fundraisers)
- Senior events (ie. Age Well meals, residence home lectures)
- Local outdoor events (ie. Green Mountain Club, MALT/TAM Trail, Otter Creek Audubon events)
- Free events at businesses (ie. author readings/book signings, art openings)
- Library events (ie. book clubs, informational lectures, book sales)
- Service events (ie. blood drives, free vaccination clinics)
- State park/historic sites events in Addison County (or nearby if summer)
- Local school performances
- Local town events (ie. Foodaroo, Vergennes Day, Bristol Best Night, etc.)
- Legislative events (ie. legislative breakfasts, informational events)
With the exception of arts performances, community calendar items should be free or of minimal cost.
- The following are considered advertisements:

- Individual political candidate events, unless a full slate of candidates is involved
- Church services/worships, church camps
- Events designed to promote individual businesses/people and/or generate income for a business or individual (ie. promotional offers designed to get foot traffic into a for-profit business, classes offered by an individual in order to generate personal income)
- Musical events that require cover charge (these are listed in Live Music section, but not in Community Calendar section)
The Addison Independent calendar also includes ongoing event listings in its online calendar. These are events of minimal cost or free that take place throughout the year, or for extended periods during the year (Sept.-Dec., for example) in the following categories:
- Health & Wellness (ie. free tai chi classes, AA, grief support)
- Arts, Crafts & Ideas (ie. writers workshops, quilting groups, shape note singing, town bands)
- Kids & Family (ie. La Leche, storytimes, playgroups, new moms support groups)
- Athletics (ie. non-rec dept. pick-up, etc.)
- Bingo
- Clubs and Groups (ie. historical societies, cribbage or chess groups, book clubs, youth groups,
- Markets & Sales (ie. library used book sales, farmers markets)
- Museums, Galleries & Exhibits
- Libraries
