Bristol man thrown from car in Middlebury crash

David A. Fleming is in the hospital with serious injuries after he crashed his car in Middlebury Sunday evening and was thrown from the vehicle off Route 116 when headed toward Bristol.

Middlebury police used video recordings and basic investigative work to arrest a local man who they say took an axe to a bank ATM in a failed attempt to rob it.

Middlebury police were informed of the theft of an ATM machine from the A&W Restaurant on Route 7 South on June 19.

Police report that Craig Disorda, 50, of Leicester was driving a Can-Am Defender utility terrain vehicle and it hit a tree.

Two Addison County residents were sentenced for their participation in a drug trafficking organization.

A witness described the vehicle involved in the incident as a blue van, police said.

The driver, who was suspected to be intoxicated according to police, was picked up by a family member before officers arrived.

Police were investigating a June 10 theft from Kinney Drugs and a theft from Shaw’s on June 8.

Bristol police completed 48 foot patrols, conducted 10 traffic stops and checked security at Mount Abraham Union Middle/High School 14 times.

Police responded to the attempted theft of an ATM machine from the Vermont Federal Credit Union.

Troopers from the Rutland barracks responded to a crash on Forest Dale Road near Stone Mill Dam Road.

The officer spoke to the person and they indicated they were just resting and not trying to jump.

Between June 1 and June 7, Vergennes police also conducted 15 traffic stops, four directed patrols, one foot patrol, three vehicle identification number verifications and one VIN number inspection.

Two involved alleged sexual offenses, the third case involved a vulnerable adult.
