VUHS wrestlers take top local honors at Commodore Invitational

With three wrestlers ruling their weight classes, the host Vergennes Union High School wrestling team earned the best finish among local schools competing at Saturday’s Commodore Invitational Tournament.

Mount Abe girls’ hoop tops VUHS

In a high school girls’ basketball game that was close throughout, visiting Mount Abraham ratcheted up the intensity of its man-to-man defense Tuesday evening to finally pull away from host Vergennes in the final few minutes and claim a 45-39 victory.

Otter, VUHS boys’ hoop prevails

Otter Valley topped Mount Abraham in a rivalry game to highlight recent local high school boys’ basketball action. Elsewhere, Vergennes took two out of three, and Middlebury came up short in a tough road matchup. 

Girls’ basketball: Tigers win big

Middlebury topped visiting Vergennes to highlight high school girls’ basketball action between Jan. 15 and 21.

Girls’ hockey takes two wins

The Middlebury Union High School girls’ hockey team cruised to a pair of victories last week and carried an 8-2-1 record into a game played at home on Wednesday vs. Burlington/Colchester after deadline for this issue of the Independent.

Boys’ hockey defeated twice

The Middlebury Union High School boys’ hockey team dropped two games last week. The Tigers (2-8) were set to host South Burlington on Wednesday after deadline. Next up is a home date next Wednesday at 7 p.m. vs. Colchester.
