Roaring cars smash and crash in Demolition Derby

Whether five or 45, age was not a limiting factor for participants in Tuesday’s annual Addison County Fair and Field Days Demolition Derby. Nevertheless, five-year-olds who took part in the action at the fairgrounds’ tractor pad were not smashing gas guzzling machines into each other. This year “drivers” ages three through eight were able to participate in the “Power Wheels” competition that kicked off the Demo Derby. The Vergennes Swim Team was the D-II runners-up.

Around 140 people competed in the day’s races.

Coach Doug Mandigo’s team will look to their 2025 5-4 record, with a new quarterback, too-be-determined, at the helm of the offense.

The streak breaks the record nine wins in a row set by Dot Martin of Williamstown during the ’90s.

Both qualified to compete in the National Senior Games next summer in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The only team to beat Middlebury was the Burlington Tennis Club.

Gabriel Billings, who has experience at the college level as an athletic director, is due in the Mt. Abe AD office next week.

One Middlebury College athlete competed at an international tournament last week, and two were honored for being the best D-III athletes in their sports earlier this week.

The team fell out of the double-elimination tournament on the third day of games.

Cross country runner Audrey MacLean and women’s lacrosse player Caroline Adams were recognized as the top D-III athletes in their respective sports.

“In 1876, the country was baseball-mad and Vermont was no exception.”

The rising senior was due to compete in the men’s single sculls at the end of the week.
