While adults alternately chatted, cheered and cooled off under sun umbrellas on a steamy summer night, young swimmers from the host Middlebury Marlins and the Vergennes Champs on Tuesday renewed their friendly rivalry in Middlebury’s town pool.

The Vergennes Champs coasted past the visiting Town of Essex Swim Team (TEST) on Thursday, July 14, by a 349-141 margin.

Before a scheduled home meet vs. Vergennes on Tuesday, the Middlebury Marlins swim team competed twice last week, dropping one meet at home and one on the road.

The Vergennes Champs split two recent away Champlain Valley Swim League meets, falling to the Burlington Tennis Club on July 7, 274-225, before edging St. Albans on Tuesday, 244-229.

The Middlebury Marlins opened their Champlain Valley Swim League season with two setbacks away from home heading into a home meet this past Tuesday against title favorite Burlington Tennis Club.

The defending Vermont summer swim team champion Vergennes Champs opened their 2022 Champlain Valley Swim League season on June 30 by swamping visiting Winooski, 337-113.

After the pandemic closed their local pool, a dozen Addison County kids swam competitively in South Burlington.

Ten-year-old Connor Husk of Ferrisburgh qualified for the 10-and-under New England Swim Championship this past weekend, which took place at the University of Rhode Island.
