Tiger girls, VUHS run strong at NVACs

COMMODORE BEN HUSTON finished ninth overall among all boys’ runners, and was the top runner in the small-school division.

ST. ALBANS — The Middlebury Union High School girls and the Vergennes boys posted the best local results at Saturday’s NVAC Championship meet, which brought together 13 girls’ and 15 boys’ teams from all three divisions at the Hard‘ack Recreation Area in St. Albans.
The Tiger girls, led by Isabel Olson in 15th, took fifth among the girls’ teams with 156 points. Champlain Valley (22) prevailed, with Essex (55) in second.
The VUHS boys took eighth with 187 points, edging the rival Tigers, who were ninth (221). The Commodores were also the top team in the small-school division. Mount Abraham was 15th (408). Commodore Ben Huston finished ninth to lead local boys’ runners, and was the top runner in the small-school division. CVU (34) and South Burlington (74) ran 1-2.
The winner of the girls’ race was CVU’s Alicia Veronneau in 18:33.6.
The Tiger girls’ scoring runners and their times were: Olson, 20:40.4; Mary Ann Eastman, 21:12.6; Ella Landis, 21:44.8; Seina Dowgiewicz, 21:58.9; and Sofia Stefani, 22:01.4.
Three Mount Abraham girls ran as individuals: Ruby Markowski, 24:37.7; Abigail Johnson, 25:11.8; and Emmaline Heilman, 35:22.2.
The winner of the boys’ race was Burlington’s Wondu Summa in 16:26.6.
The Commodore boys’ scoring runners and their times were: Huston, 17:13.4; Gabe Praamsma, 17:48.3; Erich Reitz, 17:57.1; Julio Quiles, 18:28.2; and Chris Therrien, 19:14.7.
The Tiger boys’ scoring runners and their times were: Jack Christner, 17:39.8; Thomas Nevins, 17:53.3; Will Carpenter, 18:10.7; Lucas Palcsik, 18:41.7; and Elvis McIntosh, 18:59.8.
The Eagle boys’ scoring runners and their times were: Noah Engvall, 18:59.4; Hugh Ball, 20:35; William Iliff, 20:46.3; George Collette, 21:07.8; and Gus Hill, 21:38.7.
