Young XC runners make their mark early in season

The two top local finishers this week were a sophomore and freshman.

The meet was each high school cross country running team’s first of the season.

The team has a home meet on tap for Sept. 12.

Cross country runner Audrey MacLean and women’s lacrosse player Caroline Adams were recognized as the top D-III athletes in their respective sports.

Does winning foster team chemistry, or does team chemistry lead to winning? It’s a good question, and this past fall high school sports season helps to answer it.

The MUHS girls’ cross-country team finished third in Division at Saturday’s state championship meet.

Middlebury Union High School sophomore Louisa Orten won the NVAC Small School girls’ championship race on Saturday.

Mount Abe freshman Del Guilmette and MUHSl sophomore Louisa Orten were the top local male and female cross country runners at the Thetford Trails Run.

The Middlebury Union High School girls’ cross-country team finished seventh among 15 scoring teams at this past Saturday’s U-32 Invitational, while the Tiger boys were 10th out of 17 scoring teams. 

Tiger, Vergennes Union and Mount Abraham Union runners did well at the MUHS-hosted invitational on Sept. 19.

The Middlebury Union High School girls’ cross country team finished first among six scoring girls’ squads at this past Saturday’s Harwood Invitational.

Runners from Middlebury, Mount Abraham and Vergennes union high schools participated on Saturday in the season-opening Essex Invitational Cross-Country Meet, which drew schools from all competing divisions.  The Tiger boys were 10th and the Eagle boys’ 14 … (read more)

Middlebury sophomore Audrey MacLean grabbed sixth place in the NCAA Division II race and MUHS grad and Colorado College senior Isabel Olson in top 10.

The Middlebury College men’s and women’s cross country teams, both ranked in the top 20 nationally, are heading to Indiana this weekend to compete in the NCAA Division III Championships.

The Middlebury Union Middle School cross country teams enjoyed outstanding days at the middle school championship meet on Oct. 27 at the Hard’ack Recreation Area in St. Albans, with the girls’ team finishing first among 28 scoring teams, while the MUMS bo … (read more)
