Local hoopsters honored by VBCA

ADDISON COUNTY — Eleven local high school basketball players, coaches and former coaches earned nods from the Vermont Basketball Coaches Association (VBCA) for their performances this year and over the course of their tenures. VUHS boys’ hoops lone local squad still in playoffs

The Tigers will get a second shot at No. 1 seed U-32, who they lost to early in the season.

The MUHS boys’ hockey team has the chance to check Stowe off their list of rematch victories come Saturday.

Both MUHS and VUHS must defeat the number one seeds to earn spots in the finals.

All three local high school boys’ basketball teams are slated to begin their playoff bids this Wednesday, March 4.

Local high school sports supporters have joined forces to resurrect the push for installation of artificial turf at MUHS’s Doc Collins Field.

Performing to a Missy Elliot tune, Middlebury Union High School dancers hip-hopped their way to first place in that category during the state championships on Saturday. It’s the Tigers first state win since 2012.

MUHS skiers snagged first place wins in the freestyle state championships, with another day of racing still to come.

The Tigers ended the first quarter 20 points ahead of the Eagles, who previously defeated MUHS in January.

The Middlebury Union High School girls’ hockey team found their stride again after a three-game losing streak by doubling up Rice, before falling to Spaulding three days later.

The Tigers had a win and a loss this past week, bringing their record to 8-6-1.

VUHS and Mt. Abe gathered wins this week.

Wrestlers from MUHS, VUHS and Mt. Abe were all victorious at tournaments on Saturday.

The Middlebury Union High School team earned silver in hip hop and pom in a meet they hosted on Saturday.
