THETFORD — Local high school cross-country runners posted solid results at Saturday’s Woods Trails Run at Thetford Academy, a major meet that drew more than 1,300 varsity athletes and 96 boys’ and girls’ scoring teams from around New England.
Among local squads, the Middlebury boys fared best overall with 524 points, taking 15th out of 52 scoring teams and finishing third among the Vermont Division II teams competing. D-II’s U-32 won the boys’ race with 76, and D-II Woodstock was 10th (460). Out of more than 700 competitors overall Tigers juniors Jack Christner and Thomas Nevins were 34th and 70th, respectively.
Within their second-seed grouping, Christner and Nevins were third and 10th, respectively.
Vergennes sent only four male runners and did not score as a team, but fared well, with Ben Huston and Gabe Praamsma 36th and 97th overall, respectively. And Huston won the third-seed race in which they ran, with Praamsma taking third and Erich Reitz fourth.
The Mount Abraham boys finished 44th with 1,208 points. Noah Engvall in 188th and Liam Davison in 266th led the Eagles. In the third-seed standings their finishes bumped up to 23rd and 59th, respectively.
Four Otter Valley boys ran, led by Parker Todd in 137th, a result that improved to 18th in the third-seed standings.
Mill River junior Brogan Giffin won the boys’ 5K race in 16:25.77.
The MUHS girls ran to a 16th-place finish among 46 teams that was second among the D-II schools competing (U-32 was fifth overall with 216 points). The Tigers scored 497 points. Champlain Valley prevailed with 92 points, while Rylee Shunney of second-place East Greenwich, R.I., won the race in 19:21.78.
Mary Ann Eastman and Isabel Olson paced the Tiger girls by taking, respectively, 69th and 73rd overall out of almost 600 runners, finishes that translated to 7th and 8th in the second-seed standings. 
OV was 41st with 1,224 points. Kelsey Adams led the Otters by finishing 279th.
Two Eagles ran: Ruby Markowski was 322nd (26:09.68), and Maisy Hill finished 511th (30:18.17).

The Commodore boys’ finishers and their times were: 36. Huston, 18:08.61; 97. Praamsma, 18:52.71; 100. Reitz, 18:53.79; and 337. Chris Therrien, 21:05.61.
The top seven Eagle boys’ finishers and their times were: 188. Engvall, 19:47.55; 266. Liam Davison, 20:31.47; 422. George Collette, 21.54.30; 427. Gus Hill, 21:56.89; 453. Hugh Ball, 22:16.76; 459. Liam Beatty, 22:20.01; and 496. William Iliff, 22:44.19.
The OV finishers were: 177. Todd, 19:43.28; 259. Joseph Cijka, 20:29.29; and 339. Liam Murphy, 21:05.88; and 730. Kevin Odell, 37:23.69.
The Tiger girls’ top seven finishers were: 69. Eastman, 22:05.23; 73. I. Olson, 22:10.35; 111. Ella Landis, 22:54.41; 150. Maddy Stowe, 23:30.45; 156. Seina Dowgiewicz, 23:34.57; 164. Fairley Olson, 23:39.18; and 176. Sofia Stefani, 23:50.35.
