Waltham tax rate follows the trend

Waltham is no exception to the trend in most communities local and state-wide: Its overall residential tax rate — including taxes to support municipal services and Addison Northwest School District schools — rose this year.

After rejecting two budget proposals, Vergennes-area residents on Tuesday will again make a decision on proposed school spending for the 2024-2025 school year.

For the second time this month, residents of the five communities on Tuesday rejected a spending plan — this time by 18 votes.

After a major tax increase two years ago and then a more modest tax hike in the fall of 2021, Waltham taxpayers are looking at significant decrease in their 2022-2023 (Fiscal Year 2023) property tax bills. 

City Counselor Mel Hawley and Ferrisburgh Town Clerk Pam Cousino determined Vergennes was undercharged by $6,357 and Waltham by $482, while Ferrisburgh was overbilled by $5,707 and Panton by $2,005.
