Vergennes Police Log for Jan. 30

Vergennes police are looking into the repeat theft of an American flag stolen from the porch of a South Maple Street home.

Charges are pending against a woman who fled from a Green Street encounter on Friday, Jan. 17, with Vergennes police and allegedly led them on a car chase that police abandoned because of safety concerns.

Vergennes police on Jan. 7 issued multiple citations to a St. Albans man after conducting an investigation that followed receiving a report from a South Water Street resident of fraudulent bank withdrawals totaling $9,316.

Vergennes police were recently investigating one case of alleged fraud reported by a city resident when they came across a separate case in which they found a motorcycle at a Bristol residence they said was apparently stolen from a Brandon resident. 

On Dec. 23, Vergennes police summoned a Salisbury man to participate in the Addison County Restorative Justice Program in order to answer to the charge of disturbing the peace by electronic means.

Vergennes police ended up helping a student who was reported to have left their school at about 12:23 p.m. on Dec. 16 amid “concerns for her well-being” among the officials and teachers who helped find her.

Vergennes police were busy last week spreading the word about the new Vergennes winter parking law, and then enforcing it over the weekend.

Vergennes police on Nov. 30 cited a Waltham man for recent break-ins at the Vergennes Animal Hospital and the Vergennes DDS dental practice. 

On Nov. 19, Vergennes police cited a Monkton man for lewd and lascivious conduct with a child and aggravated sexual assault.

Vergennes police and local social service agencies worked last week on a case in which a homeless individual allegedly had been sleeping in the unlocked lobby of the Walker Avenue residential complex.

Vergennes police responded to an Oct. 30 family fight on Booska Court and ended up citing a Vergennes resident for domestic assault in the presence of a child.

Vergennes police recently responded to three verbal domestic disputes on First Street, two of them involving the same couple on two consecutive days.

On Oct. 16 Vergennes police handled a stolen vehicle complaint that resulted in a New York resident being cited for operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent.

Vergennes police on Oct. 12 for the second time in recent weeks took a credible eyewitness report of people climbing over or slipping under the construction fencing at the downtown Vergennes Grand senior housing project worksite on North Street. 

Vergennes police on Oct. 3 worked with Middlebury, Vermont State and Bristol police on a case in which a Jeep was stolen at 4 a.m. from a Middlebury convenience store on Court Street.
