Vergennes Police Log: Waltham man cited for burglaries

VERGENNES — Vergennes police after an investigation done with cooperation of Vermont State Police made an arrest on Feb. 20 in one in the series of property crimes recently committed in and near the city.

Police cited Jacob Burmania, 30, of Waltham, for 11 counts of burglary, three counts of attempted burglary, eleven counts of possessing burglary tools, nine counts of petit larceny, one count of grand larceny, four counts of possessing stolen property, five counts of unlawful mischief, and 14 counts of unlawful trespass.

Burmania was held overnight for lack of $25,000 bail at the Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility in Rutland. He was arraigned at the Addison County Court’s Criminal Division on Feb. 21. According to a court official, he pled innocent to the charges and was released with conditions.

Most recently, police allege Burmania stole money from a Main Street business on Feb. 20. They also questioned him about a break-in that incurred sometime during the past two weeks at a vacant Green Street business, a case in which nothing was reported missing. Police said Burmania denied involvement in that incident.

Police are also investigating an attempted break-in into the Eagles Club on New Haven Road on Feb. 19, but didn’t report any details, citing an ongoing investigation.

City police in a press release added the investigation into crimes allegedly involving Burmania is ongoing, and authorities encourage anyone with additional information to contact the Vergennes Police Department at 802-877-2201.

Meanwhile, city police said as of earlier this week another recent series of more than a dozen nighttime break-ins and entries into vehicles parked around Vergennes remained under investigation.

In other action between Feb. 17 and 23, Vergennes police conducted four traffic stops and a VIN inspection, processed five fingerprint requests, and also:

• Arrested Christopher Adams, 44, of Burlington, for driving under the influence of drugs, test refusal; driving without a required ignition interlock device and with a criminally suspended license; and on an arrest warrant from Chittenden County. Adams was taken to the Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility in Rutland for lack of bail on the arrest warrant.
