Girls soccer stars picked

Girls’ soccer players from the Vergennes, Mount Abraham, Middlebury and Otter Valley high school teams have received postseason recognition from the Mountain League, Lake Division and the Southern Vermont League B Division. 

No. 2 seed VUHS relied on a gritty teamwide defense, sensational early saves from sophomore goalie Addie Smith, and well-struck goals from Ava Francis and Sophia James to defeat Peoples for the title.

The 6th-seeded Mount Abraham girls’ soccer team exited the Division II playoffs on Saturday after losing a heartbreaking penalty kick shootout to host No. 3 U-32.

The big news in high school girls’ soccer this fall has been the Vergennes team, which finished 13-1 and earned the No. 2 seed in Division III.

The MAUHS girls’ soccer team beat previously undefeated VUHS, 3-2.

Middlebury and Mount Abraham battled to a tie, and Vergennes remained unbeaten in recent high school girls’ soccer action.

In recent high school girls’ soccer action, Vergennes picked up two more victories to remain unbeaten, Mount Abraham earned a tie and a win in two road games, and Middlebury dropped two contests.

After falling behind in the first half, the Commodores rallied to defeat Hazen, 2-1.

The undefeated Vergennes Union High School girls’ soccer team rolled to the only victory among the Addison County high school squads in recent games.

Seventh-seeded Mount Abraham went toe-to-toe with top-seeded defending Division II champion Milton for all 80 minutes of Friday night’s rainy, chilly final in Burlington.
