Fall Sports Report: MUHS teams look to build on a pretty good year

Middlebury Union High School teams didn’t earn any new banners to hang in the school gym during the fall of 2023, but all in all the season had to be rated a success.

Overall, the Mount Abraham Union High School teams will be aiming for a little more success this fall than last fall.

The most successful teams at Vergennes Union High School in 2023 were arguably cross country and girls’ soccer, with the former taking fifth in Division II and the latter winning a playoff game for the first time in four years.

A championship golfer and a winning football team provided most of the highlights for Otter Valley Union High School athletics in the fall of 2023, and they appear poised to provide more success this autumn.

Across the board, it should be an entertaining and interesting fall for sports teams at Mount Abraham. 

In most cases youth will both be served by — and serve — the Vergennes Union High School teams this fall.

After a mostly successful autumn season a year ago sparked in part by a strong class of senior athletes most teams at Otter Valley Union High School will be relying more on youth this fall. 

The most successful teams at Middlebury Union High School in the fall of 2021 were cross country and boys’ soccer, and both appear poised to do well again.

The established team sports at Mount Abraham all started the preseason with a sense of optimism, and meanwhile two new activities joined the fold, even if sign-up for each was limited as school opened.
