Girls’ basketball: MUHS, VUHS post wins

ADDISON COUNTY — In local high school girls’ basketball action on Tuesday, Middlebury and Vergennes picked up home wins, but Mount Abraham saw its winning streak snapped with a setback on the road.
Otter Valley’s Tuesday home game vs. Springfield was postponed until Feb. 8.
TIGERS
The Middlebury Tigers earned their most one-sided victory in years, topping visiting Milton, 46-13, behind a balanced attack and stingy defense.
Annie Andrus scored 10 points to lead MUHS, and Ele Sellers added nine as the Tigers improved to 3-5. They will host Colchester on Friday.
Mallorie Chalmers scored five points for Milton.
COMMODORES
The Commodores erased an early nine-point deficit in a 50-41 win over visiting Colchester. VUHS took control by outscoring the Lakers in the third quarter, 16-6.
Three Commodores reached double figures: Sophie Hatch (14 points), Kate Gosliga (12) and Emily Rooney (11) points.
The Commodores improved to 3-4 heading into a Thursday evening home game vs. Mount Abe.
Jess Laquerre scored 14 for the Lakers.
EAGLES
Host Mt. Mansfield earned a 16-9 advantage in the fourth quarter to rally past the Eagles, 45-41. Neither team shot well from the free-throw line, but the Cougars went there more often and earned key points: They were 10-for-34, and the Eagles hit four of 13 free throws.
Chloe Johnston hit five three-pointers and led the Eagles with 22 points. Grace Harvey contributed five points and 10 rebounds, and Johnston and Cami Masse each had five steals. Allie Fullem sparked MMU with 15 points and eight boards.
The Eagles saw a their six-game winning streak broken and dropped to 6-3.
