MAV and MUHS boys’ lax teams win 2026 debuts

ADDISON COUNTY — Local high school lacrosse teams racked up two wins this week. The combined team from Mount Abraham and Vergennes union high schools earned a win, and the one from Middlebury started their record with a win and a loss.

EAGLES

The MAV boys’ lacrosse team kicked off 2026 with an 11-6 win over Burlington in Bristol this past Friday. Sophomore Addy Halby scored a hat trick, junior co-captains Asa Pratt and Lincoln Painter had two goals apiece, and junior Kestrel Edwards, senior Cooper Cook and junior Levi Smith each had one.

The 27-man team’s sole freshman, Levi Clark, also scored, marking his first as a member of the varsity squad.

Pratt, Cook and senior Joe Sullivan also each assisted a goal, and five members of the team caused 14 Burlington turnovers.

Eagle goalies Connor Nason (senior) and Mason Forand (sophomore) each played a half, and had four saves a piece.

Next up for MAV is Milton on Friday, April 24, in Bristol at 4:30 p.m.

TIGERS

Though barely into the spring season, the Tigers have already packed it with excitement. Their season-opener ended in 14-13 overtime victory over South Burlington on Thursday, April 16, in South Burlington.

Senior Ben DeBisschop scored almost half of the Tigers’ goals, with what amounts to two hat tricks, and assisted his teammates twice. The co-captain’s six goals included the final OT goal needed to lift MUHS above the Wolves.

Tiger junior Brady Lloyd and senior co-captain Logan McNulty each also had a hat trick and one assist. Sophomore goalie Tanner English had 13 saves.

The Tigers played a second away game at Rice on Saturday, April 18, but didn’t have the same outcome. MUHS fell short by just two goals, 10-8.

Junior Rowdy Malcom and sophomore Evan Northrup both scored twice, and Northrup had an assist. McNulty, DeBisschop and Lloyd each had a goal and an assist, and freshman Hartley Littlefield scored once. English accumulated eight saves.

The Tigers’ Tuesday home-opener vs. CVU was postponed due to Fucilie Field being too wet.

MUHS’s next game is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, at 11 a.m. on BFA St. Albans’ turf.
