Tiger girls win at NVAC cross country meet

SWANTON — The Middlebury Union High School girls’ cross-country team won the Small School Division at this past Saturday’s NVAC championship meet, while the MUHS and Vergennes boys ran 2-3 in the Small School boys’ race.
MUHS sophomore Seina Dowgiewicz and senior Ella Landis ran 2-3 individually in the girls’ Small School race to spark their team.
The Mount Abraham girls finished sixth. Abigail Johnson led the Eagles with a seventh-place effort.
VUHS senior Ben Huston won the Small School race and finished second overall among all runners, and VUHS senior Gabe Praamsma was second in the Small School race.
Tiger Jack Christner led his team by taking fourth in the Small School race, and Noah Engvall paced the Eagle boys by finishing 13th.
The girls’ team scores were MUHS, 24; Missisquoi, 58; Rice, 81; Fairfax, 96; Mount Abe, 107.
The boys’ team scores were Spaulding, 38; MUHS, 50; VUHS, 108; Rice, 112; Fairfax, 129; Mt. Abe, 141; Milton, 145; MVU, 199.
Otter Valley also held its annual invitational meet on Saturday. Rutland swept the races, edging the OV girls, 16-21, and defeating the OV boys, 19-44. Otters Kelsey Adams in the girls’ race and Parker Todd in the boys’ race each finished fourth to lead their teams.
All the local teams will send varsity squads to Thetford this Saturday to compete in the state championship meet.
