Eagle boys’, Tiger girls’ teams second at local track & field meet

Local athletes faced some good competition in an eight-team track & field meet held last Thursday at Middlebury College.

A handful of local athletes posted top-10 performances among the 20 teams at Saturday’s Burlington Invitational.

The host Mount Abraham boys enjoyed their day in the spring sun on Monday, when they came out on top of an eight-team home track and field meet with 169 points, besting second-place Richford (142) and third-place Middlebury (91).

The Middlebury College women’s track & field team on Saturday earned its third NESCAC championship, an effort highlighted by four first-place finishes at an event hosted by Hamilton.

Led by first-place finishes by Joe Darling and Gavin Bannister, the Mount Abraham Union High School boys’ track & field team took third place among 11 teams competing at the Essex Vacational Meet on April 21.

Local schools may be on vacation, but the Eagle track & field team is not. Mount Abe athletes performed well in Essex on Thursday.

The Middlebury College Panther women’s track & field team won a 19-team meet hosted by Connecticut College this past Friday and Saturday.

A Mount Abe grad is competing in the NCAA meet this weekend.
