Girls’ hockey wins big

The Middlebury Union High School girls’ hockey team picked up a 5-2 road win at Missisquoi on Saturday. The Tigers improved to 9-3-1 heading into a challenging Wednesday evening home game vs. St. Albans.

Once again setting its highest team score of the season, the Middlebury Union High School gymnastics team took second place in a three-team meet on Jan. 29, an event the team hosted in the MUMS gymnasium.

In the Mount Abraham gym on Thursday night, the Eagles and the visiting MUHS took turns going on runs. In the end, the Tigers rallied last to defeat the Eagles, 51-45.

The Middlebury Union High School Nordic ski teams competed on Jan. 24 in 5-kilometer classic races at a seven-team meet at Stowe’s Trapp Family Lodge Outdoor Center.

In the Middlebury Union High School girls’ hockey team’s only game in the past week, host Burlington/Colchester blanked the Tigers, 4-0, on Wednesday, Jan. 22.

Visiting South Burlington defeated the Middlebury Union High School boys’ hockey team, 4-1, on Jan. 22, in the only action during the past week before deadline for this issue of the Independent.

The Middlebury Union High School girls’ hockey team cruised to a pair of victories last week and carried an 8-2-1 record into a game played at home on Wednesday vs. Burlington/Colchester after deadline for this issue of the Independent.

The Middlebury Union High School boys’ hockey team dropped two games last week. The Tigers (2-8) were set to host South Burlington on Wednesday after deadline. Next up is a home date next Wednesday at 7 p.m. vs. Colchester.

Late in Tuesday’s third quarter in the Otter Valley gym, the Middlebury Union High School boys’ basketball team appeared poised to upset the host Otters.

In almost ideal conditions at Rikert Outdoor Center on Saturday, with gently falling snow adding to the atmosphere, the Division II Middlebury Union High School boys’ Nordic ski team finished third in an eight-team, 5-kilometer classic-style race against … (read more)

The Middlebury Union High School wrestling team won its third tournament of the winter this past weekend, the Winnisquam (N.H.) Regional High School Winter Classic. The event drew two-dozen teams.

The visiting Middlebury Union High School girls’ basketball team put on an impressive first-half display at Otter Valley on this past Saturday, taking a 38-7 lead at the break and cruising to a 65-29 victory over the Otters.

The host Middlebury Union High School girls’ hockey team on Saturday picked up its second one-sided win of the winter over Rutland; this time the final score was 9-0. The Tigers, who improved to 5-1-1 with the victory, had defeated RHS by 10-0 in Rutland … (read more)

On Friday, Jan. 3, the Middlebury Union High School Nordic ski teams competed on their home trails at Rikert Outdoor Center in 3-kilometer classic races hosted by the Mount Mansfield team.

Host Division I Essex defeated the Middlebury Union High School boys’ hockey team on Saturday, 6-0.
