Girls’ hockey blanks RHS for 2nd time

MIDDLEBURY — The host Middlebury Union High School girls’ hockey team on Saturday picked up its second one-sided win of the winter over Rutland; this time the final score was 9-0. The Tigers, who improved to 5-1-1 with the victory, had defeated RHS by 10-0 in Rutland in December.

They are likely to face stiffer challenges on Saturday, when Stowe visits for a 5 p.m. contest, and this coming Wednesday, when Woodstock comes to the Memorial Sports Center, also for a 5 p.m. puck drop.

McKenna Raymond paced the Tigers with four goals and an assist. Lia Calzini scored twice and set up two goals, Nova Bojanowski had a goal and two assists, Sedona Carrara scored one goal and set one up, Ireland Hanley picked up three assists, and Hayden Dunakin added a goal.

Goalies Ruby Hubbell (two saves in the first period) and Michaela Charbonneau (four saves in the final two periods) shared the shutout. Rutland goalie Riley Quesnel made 25 saves.
