One night in the life of a Ukrainian mother

“Does it make sense to save your own life if you can’t save your children’s?”

Every morning before I eat my breakfast, I bless my food and “visit” some situations in our world and express gratitude for those doing their work. I call this ritual “my daily morning prayers.”

For three long years, we, Ukrainians, have been defending our land.  The world, which once guaranteed us the inviolability of our borders, is now turning away and saying: if you want peace, surrender!

Bless me Father for I have sinned. I am a United States citizen. I have paid my federal taxes. Our United States government offers money and weapons to Israel.

I am very concerned that the United States is engaged in the deadly game of upping the ante.

I am a Quaker and have been led to write to our community regarding the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant located in southeastern Ukraine.

As a world we need to find another way to respond to war. How do we become part of a solution for ending the war in Ukraine?

Every evening, I light a candle that is standing in a protected lantern. I place the lantern on our front porch. I offer this light to send healing, soothing thoughts to all those in mourning.
