Letter to the editor: Addison candidates say they won’t vote as a block

I had an opportunity to communicate directly with Tim Buskey about his concerns that there were three candidates running as some sort of “voting block.” I thought it might be helpful to also share my thoughts with your readers, as I am one of the three candidates he was concerned about.

The shortage of child care is the fault of Vermont because of all the regulated rules that caused the closings of child care providers in the state.

I have served on the Fish and Wildlife for the past two years. Not once has Senator Bray or Hardy personally attended a board meeting.

Consider: What social institution is now and has historically been the most successful at improving the lives of the general public, while at the same time harboring little to no harm and trouble?

The recent oversight in the town of Addison’s election process, failure to remember selectmen’s terms, was unfortunate. However, if I read the Vermont statute correctly, the selectman… “serves until a successor is elected.”

I find many politicians to be half right on the issue of student debt.

You will note an anomaly in the number of selectboard positions up for election this year. In a typical year, there would be no more than two board members up for election. This year, we have three.

After reviewing the impacts of the new Act 127 transition mechanism, our review confirms that we properly developed a budget that considered the negative impact of Act 127 while at the same time responding to the other FY25 financial challenges.

I am writing in response to a recent letter from Fred Schroeder regarding proposed legislation to change the role and composition of the Fish and Wildlife Board and also to ban the practice of hunting coyotes with packs of hounds (hounding).

In response to the editorial “Traffic Scheme Makes No Sense” by Shirley Pominville, we totally agree with this assessment and are frequent shoppers at this store that offers so much to Middlebury and surrounding areas. 

Although she has not been convicted of a crime yet, her actions during the time of arrest and the subsequent email sent yesterday shows that she is anti-law enforcement and that in itself goes against the mission of a prosecutor.

I find it interesting that one of the candidates for Middlebury selectboard, an incumbent no less, Khan is “particularly proud of his service on the Middlebury’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee.”
