The Mount Abraham Unified School District Board lined up behind school administrators on Tuesday evening when pressed about the June dismissal of high school basketball coach Connie LaRose.

The established team sports at Mount Abraham all started the preseason with a sense of optimism, and meanwhile two new activities joined the fold, even if sign-up for each was limited as school opened. 

The Mount Abraham/Vergennes football team won its Division III opener on Saturday, 20-14, at Poultney, snapping a 14-14 tie in the fourth quarter on the third of Jamison Couture’s three rushing touchdowns.

Longtime successful Mount Abe coach doesn’t understand why she was fired.

For the second straight season, the No. 2 Mount Abraham Union softball team won two Division II playoff games, but then came up short vs. No. 3 Enosburg, its Lake Division rival, in a home semifinal.

The 29th annual Eagle Basketball Camp will be held in Bristol from June 27 to 30 for grades 2 through high school.

Host Spaulding defeated the Mount Abraham-Vergennes boys’ lacrosse team on Saturday, 9-3. The Tide improved to 3-1 with their third straight win, while the Eagles dropped to 1-1.

The Mount Abraham-Vergennes cooperative boys’ lacrosse team spotted Otter Valley an early lead on Tuesday in Bristol and also had to hold off a late Otter rally, but the Eagles ultimately prevailed, 11-8.

The Mount Abraham softball team jumped to a quick 11-1 lead over visiting Spaulding on Tuesday and cruised to a 15-6 victory in the Eagles’ opener.
