Commodore girls’ soccer tops Tigers, 2-0

MIDDLEBURY — The Vergennes Union High School girls’ soccer team defeated host Middlebury on Tuesday, 2-0.
The Division III Commodores improved to 3-1-1 and will visit defending D-II champion Milton on Friday. MUHS dropped to 2-2 and will host Rice on Friday.
VUHS got on the board on an Emily Rooney goal set up when Maria Malaney picked off an errant Tiger clearance. Sydney Weber made it 2-0 in the late going on an indirect kick just outside the Tiger box, drilling a tap-back from Rooney into the lower left corner.
VUHS goalie Kate Gosliga handled the only two Tiger shots on goal for the shutout. Tiger goalie Carly Burger stopped four shots.
