MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police received into evidence what police described as “a powdery substance and pills” found in a school bathroom on March 5. The initial police log item said the school was located on Charles Avenue. Police later told the Independent that the school was the Patricia A. Hanaford Career Center.
Police said the case is under investigation.
In other action last week, Middlebury police:
•  Investigated an allegation of cruelty to a family member at a Main Street location on March 2.
•  Were informed that someone had written graffiti on the Mill Street pump house on March 2.
•  Received a report of a suicidal man in the Three Mile Bridge Road area on March 3. Police said the man was taken to Porter Hospital.
•  Responded on March 3 to a single-vehicle accident on Court Street in which a person sustained non-life threatening injuries.
•  Connected a local, suicidal woman with Counseling Service of Addison County officials on March 3.
•  Helped Middlebury Regional EMS officials get inside a Seminary Street home where a resident was experiencing a medical emergency on March 3.
•  Cited Jesse Gillette, 26, of Middlebury for driving under the influence, following a report of a vehicle parked at a closed Court Street Extension business at 11:21 p.m. in March 4. Police said Gillette declined to submit to an evidentiary breath test.
•  Received a report about a local man allegedly violating a no-trespass order in the Court Square area on March 4.
•  Assisted Middlebury Regional EMS with a person that had passed out at a Court Street location on March 4.
•  Assisted an MUHS student who had hinted at self-harm on March 5.
•  Questioned a man who had been looking into windows in the Maple Street area at 1:21 a.m. on March 6. Police said it was a resident who’d been locked out of his home.
•  Investigated a report of a counterfeit $100 bill being passed at Mac’s Store on East Main Street on March 6. Police said they’ve informed U.S. Secret Service about the incident.
•  Were informed a wallet had been stolen from a locker at Porter Hospital on March 6.
•  Received a report about a drug overdose case at the Charter House warming shelter on March 6.
•  Searched in vain for a man that a group of college students alleged had been acting suspiciously in the Bakery Lane neighborhood on March 7. Police couldn’t find the man.
•  Responded to a report of a fight in progress at a Ledgewood Court home on March 7. Police said it was a dispute between a parent and an adult child, and no one reported injuries as a result of the fight.
•  Quieted a loud party at a Middlebury College house on Weybridge Street on March 7. Police said the tenants agreed to close windows, draw shades and turn down the music.
•  Shut down a Middlebury College student party at a Washington Street residence at almost midnight on March 7. Police said they had responded to the same address earlier in the evening and that the tenants had not followed through on promises to keep the noise down.
•  Investigated a complaint about the possible neglect of a local vulnerable adult on March 8. Police said they gave all the involved parties information on helpful support services.
•  Took, to receive detox services in Rutland, a drunken man found in the lobby of the South Village Green apartment building on March 8.
•  Received a report that a Mary Hogan Elementary student had walked away form school during the morning of March 9. Police said the student was quickly located.
