Tiger boys’ tennis splits two

The Middlebury Union high School boys’ tennis team split two recent home matches and stand at 5-3 past the midpoint of its rain-plagued season.

The Middlebury Union High School girls’ tennis team lost its only recent match, 5-2, to host Rice on April 30. That was the Middlebury team’s first setback, as the Tigers dropped to 2-1.

In the only match the Middlebury Union High School boys’ tennis team played recently, the Tigers defeated host Rice, 5-2, back on April 30. That result was the Tigers’ fourth straight victory, and they improved to 4-2.

The Middlebury Union High School boys’ tennis team defeated host South Burlington, 6-1, on Monday. The victory was the Tigers’ third straight and moved the defending Division I champions over .500 at 3-2.

Middlebury Union High School girls’ tennis edged visiting North Country on Monday, 4-3, improving the Tigers’ record in the early going to 2-0.

After two early postponements, the Middlebury Union High School girls’ tennis team finally opened its season on April 18, and it won 7-0 at St. Albans.

 The Middlebury Union High School boys’ tennis team won two home matches late last week, defeating Colchester, 6-1, on April 17 and South Burlington, 5-1 on April 18.

The Middlebury Union High School boys’ tennis team dropped its first two matches, both on the road, to Champlain Valley on April 10, 5-2, and to Stowe on Monday, also by 5-2.

The Middlebury Indoor Tennis Community Team (MITC) on Saturday edged the Middlebury Union High School boys’ tennis team in the third annual dual between the community and Tiger squads.

The Tigers won 6 out of 7 matches when they hosted the Wolves of South Burlington on Friday. The next match in the playoffs is Monday afternoon in Middlebury.

The Middlebury Union High School girls’ tennis team earned the No. 4 seed in Division II, and in a quarterfinal home match on Tuesday the No. 5 seed Rice (8-7) knocked off the Tigers, 6-1.

The Middlebury Union High School girls’ tennis team split two matches late last week and stands at 8-3 with one match left on the schedule, at Division I Colchester on Wednesday after the deadline for this edition.
