Tiger singles, doubles players rock

The Middlebury Union High School boys’ tennis doubles team of senior Iver Anderson and freshman Nate Cook Yoder knocked off the top seed on Sunday to claim the state championship at South Burlington’s Leddy Park — and the No. 1 seed was comprised of their MUHS senior teammates Milo Rees and Eddie Fallis, who had been rolling over their foes all spring.

The Middlebury Union High School girls’ tennis team earned the No. 4 seed in Division II, and in a quarterfinal home match on Tuesday the No. 5 seed Rice (8-7) knocked off the Tigers, 6-1.

The Middlebury Union High School boys’ tennis team lost its first match of the spring on Tuesday, 4-3 to visiting Champlain Valley.

The Middlebury Union High School girls’ tennis team split two recent matches, and the Tigers’ record after Monday stood at 4-3 — with that win total double the program’s in 2023.

The Middlebury Union High School boys’ tennis team won a pair of matches during the past week to improve to 9-0 heading into what was expected to be a challenging match at Stowe on Wednesday afternoon.

The Middlebury Union High School boys’ tennis team continued to impress in recent action, picking up three wins — one over the defending state champion — to improve to 7-0.

The Middlebury Union High School girls’ tennis team won twice in three recent outings. At 3-2 heading into a match scheduled at North Country on Wednesday, the Tigers have already exceeded their 2023 victory total.

The Middlebury Union High School boys’ tennis team on Monday remained undefeated by besting visiting South Burlington, 6-1. 

Middlebury Union High School boys’ tennis won two more matches last week, posting victories in 13 of 14 matches and prevailing in four tiebreakers.

This summer Middlebury College will build new outdoor tennis courts off South Street and add better throwing areas for its track and field teams nearby.

The Middlebury Union High School boys’ tennis team began its campaign with a pair of home victories — 6-1 over Champlain Valley on Friday, April 12, and 4-3 over 2023 Division I finalist Stowe on Monday.  

After Community Team MIT defeated the Tiger boys’ varsity team last year, the high schoolers roared back this year to beat their elders in a match played at Middlebury Indoor Tennis on Saturday.

The Middlebury Union High School girls’ tennis season came to an end this past Wednesday, May 31, when the No. 9 seed Tigers lost a tight match at No. 8 Harwood, 4-3.
