Mount Abe boys’ soccer overcomes VUHS challenges for a win

In a typically hard-fought duel on Saturday between the rivals, the host Eagles earned a 2-0 victory over the Commodores in what was the final regular season game for both squads.

With the season’s finish line in sight, the Vergennes, Mount Abraham, Middlebury and Otter Valley high school girls’ soccer teams all won at least once between Oct. 9 and 15. 

In recent local high school boys’ soccer action, Vergennes and Mount Abraham both picked up home victories.

In a hard-fought and physical game in Bristol on Monday, the host Mount Abraham girls’ soccer team scored three times in the final 29 minutes to erase a 2-0 Middlebury lead and come away with the Eagles’ second dramatic win over the Tigers this fall.

One-goal wins by both Middlebury and Mount Abraham over Vergennes topped the recent local high school boys’ soccer news.

In recent local high school girls’ soccer play, Mount Abraham picked up a home victory, Otter Valley split two games, and Vergennes continued to find tough going in the Lake Division.

The Division II Mount Abraham girls’ soccer team achieved its main objectives on Tuesday at Vergennes, playing crisply, passing the ball and defending well, and coming away with a 3-1 victory.

In recent local high school boys’ soccer action, Vergennes broke through for a pair of victories, Mount Abraham split a pair of contests, and Middlebury dropped a tough road game.

Highlighting recent local high school girls’ soccer play was Mount Abraham’s double-overtime victory at Middlebury on Sept. 25.
