Tiger boys control all but scoreboard in first match

The Middlebury Union High School boys’ soccer team on this past Saturday hosted Division I Rutland on Fucile Field in a season opener that was both encouraging and frustrating for the Tigers.

College teams post big wins

The Middlebury College field hockey and men’s soccer teams on Tuesday opened their seasons with one-sided victories, while the Panther women’s soccer team was set to open by hosting Plattsburgh on Wednesday after the deadline for this section. 

Girls’ soccer teams start strong

In recent girls’ high school soccer action, the Mount Abraham, Vergennes and Otter Valley teams all won their first games of the new season, while Middlebury came up short against a tough opponent on the road.

Boys chosen as soccer all-stars

Thirteen members of the Lake Division champion Middlebury Union High School boys’ soccer team received postseason recognition from the six-team league, as did nine players apiece from second-place Vergennes and fourth-place Mount Abraham.

Rowan University defeated the Middlebury College men’s soccer team, 3-2, in a first-round NCAA Division III game on the campus of Stevens Institute on Saturday. Rowan improved to 12-5-5, and the Panthers dropped to 10-5-3.
