Middlebury police last week spent a lot of time responding to complaints about a small community of houseless people who’ve been camping off Bakery Lane, under the Cross Street Bridge.

Middlebury Police Log: Welfare check finds deceased woman

Middlebury police found a deceased woman inside a Water Street apartment after having been asked by the landlord to check the welfare of the tenant on Sept. 15. Police said they found 40-year-old Anny Jenkins of Middlebury deceased in her apartment. 

Middlebury Police Log: Man cited on multiple assault offenses

Middlebury police cited Ralph Swayze Jr., 23, of Middlebury for multiple assault-related offenses after responding to a report of a man assaulting a woman in the middle of North Pleasant Street at around 5:30 p.m. this past Saturday, Sept. 9.

Middlebury police cited Alton P. Brown II, 45, of Middlebury for simple assault; and cited Mildred Martin, 40, of Brandon on a warrant matter, following an investigation of an assault at a Case Street location on Sept. 2.

Middlebury police cited Daniel Guyette, 35, of Rutland for sexual assault and resisting arrest, following an investigation in the Elm Street area on Aug. 27.

Middlebury police cited Ian J. Duane, 20, of Ardmore, Pa., for driving under the influence, after having been alerted that Duane had been seen sleeping in his car while parked behind a Court Street gas station on Aug. 18.

Middlebury police helped in the rescue of three people from a vehicle that had been trapped in floodwaters on Three Mile Bridge Road at around 11 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 3.
