Locals place at Devil’s Bowl

WEST HAVEN — Saturday proved to be a rare evening that saw no local drivers win a race on Devil’s Bowl Speedway’s dirt oval, although a half-dozen Addison County and Brandon drivers recorded top-five finishes.

Three of those strong results came in the evening’s main event, the 30-lap feature in the Sportsman Modified Division.

New Hampshire driver Tanner Siemons prevailed in a three-way duel over the final laps with series points leader Demetrios Drellos of Queensbury, N.Y., and Orwell’s Tim LaDuc. Drellos took second, with LaDuc taking third.

Brandon’s Joey Scarborough and Shoreham’s Anthony Warren continued their successful seasons by finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.

Plattsburgh’s Beau Reeves, 15, made it two straight wins in the Limited Sportsman Series, driving to first in a 25-lap feature. Reeves started 19th, but worked his way up and took the lead with a three-wide pass to take the lead with two laps to go.

Bridport’s Troy Audet settled for second place, ahead of West Rutland’s Scott Fitzgerald, who led for the first 17 laps, in third.

In a 20-lap Super Stock race, Fair Haven’s Chris Murray picked up his sixth win of the season in the series. Murray, the points leader, took over in the sixth lap after starting in ninth and led the rest of the way. Addison’s Chuck Bradford drove to fourth place.

In a 15-lap Mini Stock event, Peru, N.Y., driver Clemmy Bell passed North Clarendon’s Tim Siimonds on the final corner to post his first career Devil’s Bowl victory. Siemonds settled for second, but was disqualified for an unapproved transition. Leicester’s Derrick Counter took fifth place.

Rutland’s John McPhee Jr. went coast-to-coast in the 15-lap Mini Sprint race to earn his first Devil’s Bowl win in three years. McPhee had to hold off an early challenge from Monkton’s Kaidin White, who finished third, and a late bid by Chester’s Austin Chaves, who took second.

Orwell’s Ray Hanson, the series points leader, finished fourth, his first effort not in the top two.
