Vergennes Police Log: New Yorker cited for DUI-drugs No. 4

VERGENNES — Vergennes police on Sept. 3 cited a New York man for driving under the influence of drugs, fourth offense, and leaving the scene of an accident.
Police allege a vehicle being driven by Andrew W. Mack, 37, of Hague, N.Y., southbound on Route 7 in Ferrisburgh struck a vehicle turning off the highway and then continued southward.
City police were alerted of the incident and stopped Mack’s vehicle near at the Agency of Transportation commuter lot on Route 22A just outside Vergennes in Ferrisburgh, where they allege Mack failed sobriety testing.
In other action between Sept. 2 and 8, Vergennes police:
On Sept. 2 conducted a background check for ICE, Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
On Sept. 3:
• Stopped a van that had been reported to be weaving on Route 22A while headed northbound and determined the driver was fatigued, not impaired.
• Spoke to elementary school students about crosswalk and bicycle safety.
• Conducted background checks for the FBI and New York State Police.
• Took a report that a purse had been stolen from an Armory Lane residence at some point in recent months.
On Sept. 4:
• Helped a motorist get into a locked vehicle on Second Street.
• Dealt with minor two-car accidents in the Small City Market and Collins Aerospace parking lots.
On Sept. 5 stopped a pickup truck after a Vermont State Police alert that a woman passenger had yelled at a motorist that she was being assaulted. The city officer spoke to the driver and passenger, who said she had not been assaulted but admitted an argument. Police said the couple acknowledged she had not taken her meds and that she was feeling stress from dealing with a newly born child; police recommended sources of counseling.
On Sept. 6:
• Checked a report of a West Main Street fire, but found nothing.
• Looked into a report of noises at Macdonough Park, but found nothing.
On Sept. 7:
• Dealt with a minor two-car accident on Main Street.
• After an alert from state police stopped a vehicle towing an unlicensed and unregistered vehicle and grounded the towed vehicle until its owner could find a legal way to move it.
On Sept. 8:
• Helped the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad with a call on Main Street.
• Helped a motorist get into a locked vehicle on Main Street.
• Following a complaint, told the owner of a trailer blocking a Main Street driveway to move it.
