Eagles top Tigers in field hockey

MIDDLEBURY — The Mount Abraham Union High School field hockey team picked up two recent shutout road victories, one at the expense of rival Middlebury.

The win over the Tigers came on Monday, 2-0. Maris Laperle scored an unassisted first-quarter goal, and Kaylie Thompson, assisted by Harper Young, added the insurance strike in the second quarter. The Eagles evened their record at 4-4 with the victory.

MUHS goalie Heaven Ross had another strong game — she was credited with 25 saves.

On Sept. 19 the Eagles blanked host St. Johnsbury, 2-0. Nora Hurlburt scored both Mount Abe goals in the first half, one on an assist from June Yates-Rusch, and Eagle goalie Jillian Cousino made one save.

The Tigers were otherwise idle, in part because another game was called off — their Sept. 19 outing at North Country was canceled.

The 1-4 Tigers are scheduled to visit Harwood and Lyndon on this Thursday and Friday, respectively. The Lyndon game was rescheduled from Sept. 16.
