Middlebury Police Log: Adult, juveniles taken into custody after gun incident

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police on Jan. 11 looked into an apparent shooting behind the Hannaford Supermarket late that Saturday morning, but found that no one was injured and investigation continues.

  • Gave shelter to a houseless man who had been discharged from Porter Hospital after being treated for “severe intoxication” on Jan. 6.
  • Responded on Jan. 6 to a report of a drunken customer at McDonald’s Restaurant.
  • Responded on Jan. 6 to Porter Hospital to a report of a belligerent patient.
  • Checked on an East Main Street resident who had threatened self-harm on Jan. 6.
  • Helped with a juvenile issue at Middlebury Union High School on Jan. 6.
  • Allowed a houseless person to warm up in the police department lobby to escape cold temperatures during the early morning of Jan 6.
  • Enforced the community’s overnight winter parking ban in the downtown areas nightly Jan. 6-9, and on Jan. 11.
  • Responded to a trespassing complaint in the Mainelli Road area on Jan. 7.
  • Helped Middlebury firefighters investigate a controlled burn on Middlebury College’s Ralph Myhre gold course on Jan. 8.
  • Served no-trespass orders on two people in connection with a theft complaint at Hannaford Supermarket on Jan. 8.
  • Served a no-trespass order on a person who was allegedly being disruptive at a Court Street business on Jan. 8.
  • Investigated a harassment complaint at an Ossie Road address on Jan. 8.
  • Investigated a possible theft in the Court Street area on Jan. 9.
  • Investigated an assault complaint in the Sugarwood Court neighborhood on Jan. 9.
  • Helped Middlebury Regional EMS responders get into a locked Lower Plains Road home during a medical emergency on Jan. 10.
  • Spoke on Jan. 10 with several local retail store managers about a recent spate of fraudulent checks being passed at local businesses.
  • Cited Henry Romp, 33, of Middlebury for driving with a criminally suspended license on North Pleasant Street on Jan. 10. Police said they also determined Romp was wanted on an active arrest warrant.
  • Helped Middlebury’s public works department collect aerial video on Jan. 10 of the town’s wastewater treatment plant off Industrial Avenue.
  • Responded to a report of a “highly intoxicated” man at Two Brothers Tavern on Jan. 10.
  • Responded to a noise complaint in the Charles Avenue area at around midnight on Jan. 10.
  • Responded to a report of an irate customer at an Elm Street business on Jan. 11.
  • Responded to a report of an altercation at a Middlebury College social house off South Street on Jan. 11.
  • Cited Diane Rheaume, 69, of Middlebury for driving under the influence (second offense), following their investigation of a report that a person had fallen in the Noth Pleasant Street neighborhood on Jan. 12. Police said they spotted indicators of impairment in Rheaume and determined she’d driven to the location. As a result of their investigation, police arrested Rheaume for the alleged offense. Police said Rheaume recorded a blood-alcohol test result of 0.092%; the legal limit for driving is 0.08.
  • Checked the welfare of a John Graham Court resident who needed help on Jan. 12.
  • Helped a driver whose vehicle had broken down on Court Street on Jan. 13.
