Vermont State Police Log for Dec. 5

ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police were joined by Middlebury police and deputies from the Addison County Sheriff’s Department this past Friday, Nov. 29, to run a drunken driving checkpoint on Route 30 in Cornwall for an hour in the evening.

Troopers said the purpose of the checkpoint was to detect and identify impaired drivers and promote safe driving.

The eight officers involved encountered 62 vehicles between 7 and 8 p.m. Police did not issue any driving under influence citations.

State police did issue a DUI citation a day earlier in Ferrisburgh. On Nov. 28 shortly before 8 p.m. a trooper stopped a vehicle driven by Travis J. Simpson, 29, of Ferrisburgh near the intersection of Routes 22 and 7, after the officer allegedly saw several motor vehicle violations. The trooper screened Simpson for DUI and ultimately cited him for refusing to submit an evidentiary sample for a driving under the influence of drugs test. He is due to answer the charge in court on Dec. 16.
