VERGENNES — On July 28 Vergennes police responded to the report of people camping behind an apartment complex within the Little City. But when they arrived, they learned the people were merely preparing for a camping trip and were not staying in the tent.

Between July 27 and Aug. 1, Vergennes police also conducted four traffic stops, six directed patrols and two VIN verifications, and took fingerprints four times.

In other recent activity, city police:

• On July 27 responded to and resolved a family dispute. Later, police received an additional call from the opposite party in reference to this incident. That person was looking to speak to officers.

• On July 28 arrested Amanda Brace, 39, of South Hero on a warrant for a failure to appear. Brace was issued a citation for the offense and transported to the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility on the warrant.

• On July 29 issued a court order to a Vergennes resident.

• On July 29 took a report that due to bad weather a large pothole in the road was causing cars to have issues with their tires and rims. A contractor was planning to pave the spot on Monday, Aug. 3, to prevent further issues.

• On July 29 assisted somebody with getting a no trespass order served.

• On July 30 received a report of a sick-looking racoon near the Vergennes pool. It was not located.

• On July 31 took a report of a lost wallet.

• On July 31 received a report of a dispute between two individuals. The investigation was ongoing as of Monday, Aug. 3.

• On July 31 took a report of what appeared to be a “beheaded dog” floating in Otter Creek near Falls Park. Officers were unable to locate the carcass and they called Vermont Fish and Wildlife to make them aware.

• On July 31 received a report of a car alarm that continued to go off.

• On July 31 assisted a disabled FedEx van that was partially in the road.

• On July 31 received a report about a damaged vehicle as the result of a large pothole, which was washed out near the construction on Canal Street. A police report was provided to the complainant.

• On Aug. 1 conducted a drug influence evaluation on a driver suspected of using drugs for Vermont State Police.
