Letter to the editor: Gov. Scott isn’t as non-partisan as many believe
A response to the Community Forum by Bill Schubart in the Nov. 28 Addison Independent:
Thank you, Bill Schubart, for your carefully crafted and factual message about our “most popular” governor, Phil Scott.
We’ve been lulled by that popularity into believing that Governor Scott is non-partisan. Clearly, that is not the case. It seems that his most popular achievements are due to the over-riding of his vetoes. As a retired physician, I am shamed by the exorbitant healthcare costs in Vermont. Phil Scott seems not to notice. We like to think that Vermont is a leader in terms of legislation to conform with the Paris Accord’s goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. But the governor’s decision to double the registration fee for electric vehicles is not an incentive to purchase an EV.
Julia and I must be more careful the next time we vote for a governor in Vermont, and keep a vigilant eye going forward by reading your words and those of other truth-telling journalists.
