Vermont State Police Log for Oct. 24

ADDISON COUNTY — In the past week, Vermont State police reported a burglary at a home in a state park and reported the stop of an impaired driver, who got citations for several alleged crimes.

Police in the New Haven barracks responded to a report of a burglary into a residence located in Button Bay State Park in Ferrisburgh this past Saturday, Oct. 19, at 4:45 a.m. Troopers said that someone had forcefully entered the occupied residence and fled before troopers arrived.

Anyone with information related to this case is asked to call the New Haven Barracks at 802-388-4919 or submit an anonymous  tip online at vsp.vermont.gov/tipsubmit.

The next night, at 12:16 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20, state police responded to Route 7 near the Woodman Court in Waltham to investigate a reported motor vehicle crash. During the course of the investigation, troopers discovered that Jimmy L. Bell, 43, of Ticonderoga, N.Y., had been driving, an act for which he didn’t have the legal privilege.

Then, while speaking to Bell, troopers observed indicators of impairment, and they arrested him. Police said they found he possessed 5.1 grams of heroin.

State police took Bell to the Middlebury Police Department, where they found he had failed to appear in court 14 times.

Troopers cited Bell for driving under the influence of drugs, second offense; possession of more than 2 grams of heroin, and driving with a criminally suspended license. They then lodged him at the Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility for lack of $250 bail.

Troopers were assisted by Middlebury police, Vergennes Area Rescue Squad, and Middstate Towing.
