Vermont State Police Log: Two different two-car crashes yield minor injuries

ADDISON COUNTY — A two-car crash in Salisbury on Saturday afternoon tied up Route 7 traffic for a bit, but, fortunately, no one was injured.

On Aug. 18 at around 12:24 p.m., Vermont State Police were called to the crash between Salisbury village and the Middlebury town line. Troopers report that  Tunazzena Alam, 35, of Vergennes, was driving a 2022 Subaru Outback southbound on Route 7, when they pulled into the breakdown lane in order to make a U-turn.

A 2011 Ford Crown Victoria driven by Regent Seguin, 91, of New Haven, was following the Subaru, and started to pass it when Alam began to execute the turn. The front end of the Subaru struck the passenger side of the Crown Vic and sent both vehicles careening around the roadway, where they each came to rest.

Nobody was injured as a result of the crash, though both vehicles sustained damage.

Police closed Route 7 for about 30 minutes while they sorted out the crash scene.

Troopers were assisted on scene by Middlebury police.

In other recent activity, state police:

  • On Aug. 13 at a 4:45 p.m., came across Jozef Eller, 32, of Granville on Route 100 in Rochester. Police said that Eller had an active arrest warrant for failure to appear, so they took him into custody without incident, processed him and told him to come to court and answer previous charges.
  • On Aug. 15 at 4:18 p.m., responded to a report of a two-car crash on Route 7 south, near its intersection with Stage Road in North Ferrisburgh. Police report that Marcus Gregory, 27, of Greer, S.C., was driving a 2024 Honda Accord northbound and stopped at a red light. Police allege a 2015 Chevy Trax following the Honda did not stop and rear-ended Gregor’s car. Gregor was taken by ambulance to UVM Medical Center for suspected minor injuries. The driver of the Chevy, 52-year-old Jennifer Wyrocki of Middlebury, sustained minor injuries. She was given a ticket for following too closely.

Troopers were assisted on scene by members of the Ferrisburgh Fire Department, Vergennes Area Rescue Squad and Bristol Rescue Squad.

  • On Aug. 16 at around 9 a.m., checked the welfare of a Snake Mountain Road resident in Weybridge. Police ended up citing Brian LaFountain, 37, of Weybridge, for intentionally neglecting a vulnerable adult household member. Troopers were assisted by members of the Addison County Sheriff’s Department and Middlebury Regional EMS.
  • On Aug. 16 from 8-10 p.m., conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Route 7 in Middlebury, in concert with officers from Middlebury PD and the Addison County Sheriff’s Department. The purpose of the checkpoint was to identify impaired drivers and promote safe driving.

Eleven officers encountered 501 vehicles during this period, and didn’t report any infractions.

State police from the New Haven barracks and other law enforcement agencies in Addison County will be conducting DUI sobriety checkpoints during the month of September. These checkpoints are focused on people who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Vermonters are urged to use a designated driver when necessary.
