Letter to the editor: Herb Olson will work for rural Vermont
Herb Olson is running to represent Bristol, Monkton, Lincoln and Starksboro in the Vermont House. Fifty years ago, Herb and his wife, Liz, started building their own house in the hills of Starksboro, Vt. While firmly anchored with his family in community life, every day Herb made the trip to Waterbury or Montpelier, where he worked as Assistant Attorney General, representing a variety of human service agencies, as Legislative Counsel to the Vermont General Assembly, providing policy and legislative drafting advice, and as General Counsel, regulating health insurers, hospitals, banks, and securities firms.
Herb will keep the rural perspective front and foremost in the minds of legislators so that our towns will not be an afterthought when housing, education, health care, and the environment are being considered. He also understands how government and the private sector work, so that he can see novel alternatives to our current dilemmas.
Please read last week’s Addy Indy Voter Guide to learn about Herb’s ideas for controlling education property taxes, promoting community schools, designing housing programs that will fit rural Vermont, wading through the health insurance morass (one of his specialties), advocating for primary care, and supporting action on climate change that includes a just and sensible transition to clean energy.
Herb knows what he is talking about and will work for rural Vermont. Give him the chance in the Aug. 13 Democratic primary.
