MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Dominick Ekroos, 18, of Middlebury for driving a vehicle without the owner’s consent and leaving the scene of an accident following a crash at the intersection of Happy Valley Road and Route 7 North on Oct. 22.
Police said their investigation showed the vehicle had been stolen from Cedar Court and other vehicles had been damaged during the incident there.
In other action last week, Middlebury police:
• Searched in vain for a vehicle that had reportedly been operating erratically on Seymour Street on Oct. 21.
• Helped a local resident on Oct. 21 who had received a call from a person purportedly representing the Social Security office, who allegedly told the resident to remove all her money from her bank and “put it on a card.” Police said the transaction was successfully stopped before it could be completed.
• Interviewed a woman on Oct. 21 who said a man banged on her car after she had not stopped for him while he was in a Court Square crosswalk.
• Responded to a report of a noisy vehicle left running in the Gorham Lane neighborhood at around 4:45 a.m. on Oct. 22.
• Helped a driver whose vehicle had broken down on Route 7 South on Oct. 23.
• Cited a juvenile for shoplifting at TJ Maxx in The Centre shopping complex on Oct. 23.
• Responded to a report of a vehicle leaving the scene of an accident in the Middlebury Courthouse parking lot on Oct. 23.
• Received a report on Oct. 23 that someone had smashed the windows of a van parked on Water Street in order to get inside and steal some tools.
• Gave a courtesy ride to a drunken woman who had overstayed her welcome at a Monarch Court residence on Oct. 24.
• Intervened in a physical altercation between two Middlebury Union High School students on Oct. 24. Police are investigating the incident.
• Were informed of the theft of a black-and-silver motorcycle cover from the driveway of an Elm Street residence on Oct. 24.
• Received a knife covered with dried blood that had been found on Middle Road North on Oct. 24. Police have not yet been able to trace the source of the knife.
• Helped Middlebury Regional EMS officials get into a Buttolph Drive home to access a patient on Oct. 24.
• Investigated an allegation that a Middlebury Union Middle School student had threatened someone on Oct. 25. Police ultimately determined no credible evidence of a threat.
• Responded to a report of a person being struck in the arm by a vehicle that was backing up in a Washington Street parking lot on Oct. 25. Police said the person sustained a minor injury.
• Received a report of “miscellaneous items” being removed from a Court Street apartment on Oct. 26. Police said the tenant believes the items might have been removed by the landlord.
• Received a phone call from a local resident who reported feeling suicidal on Oct. 26. Police said Middlebury Regional EMS officials took the person to Porter Hospital to meet with counselors.
• Freed a student who had locked himself inside a gym locker at MUHS on Oct. 26. Police notified the school and student’s parents.
• Assisted a local resident who on Oct. 26 reported having received a phone call from a person who had asked the resident to wire him “several thousand dollars.”
• Investigated a report of a vehicle spinning its tires in the parking lot of the Middlebury Sweets Motel on Oct. 27. Police said they warned the driver about his behavior.
• Responded to a report of gunshots in the South Street area on Oct. 27. Police said they found nothing suspicious at the spot where the shots were allegedly heard.
