Tigers, Eagles win in boys’ soccer; VUHS falls
ADDISON COUNTY — In high school boys’ soccer games on Tuesday both Mount Abraham and Middlebury posted road shutouts, but Vergennes dropped a home contest.
EAGLES
The Eagles rolled to a 6-0 win over host Spaulding. Branden Reynolds scored twice to lead the attack, and Eric McKean assisted three goals. Also finding the net for Mount Abe were Colby Gile, Silas Burgess, Ethan DeWitt and Tanner Harris. Quincy Cook stepped into goal and posted a five-save shutout as the Eagles improved to 7-2-2, remaining in the race for a home playoff game in Division II. Levi Hilton-VanOsdall stopped three shots for Spaulding.
TIGERS
The Tigers blanked host Missisquoi, 2-0, on a pair of Eben Jackson strikes. Andy Giorgio assisted the first goal, and the second was a penalty kick on a foul drawn by Alex Bleich. Logan Pierson-Flagg and Owen Lawton shared time in goal and combined for three saves, including Lawton’s second-half stop of a penalty kick. The Tigers improved to 9-2 and regained second place in D-II.
COMMODORES
Visiting Milton, D-II’s third-place team, improved to 8-2-1 by dealing the D-III Commodores a 5-1 setback. Five Yellowjackets scored, and goalie Sam Dooley made five saves. Kai Williams scored for VUHS with five minutes left, and goalie Jeffrey Stearns stopped 10 shots as the Commodores dropped to 3-7-1.
