Point CounterPoint concert series going strong

MIDDLEBURY — Point CounterPoint faculty musicians continue to celebrate the camp’s 40th anniversary with a another concert of chamber music on Thursday, Aug. 1, 8 p.m., at Mead Chapel on the Middlebury College campus.
The professional musicians who teach at Point CounterPoint Chamber Music Camp on Lake Dunmore hail from prestigious music institutions and from many parts of the world. PCP Faculty changes every two weeks with each new session of campers.
Back in 1979 Middlebury’s Emory and Diana Fanning became the owners and directors of Point CounterPoint. Right from the beginning, they were able to attract outstanding musicians and performers to teach at the camp.  To give these talented musicians some performance opportunities, the Fannings founded the Point Counterpoint Faculty Concert Series. Today Emory and Diana could not be more delighted that the Point CounterPoint Faculty Concert Series is still going strong into its 40th anniversary year.
Thursday’s program will include Richard Franck’s “Klavierquartett in einem Satz,” Emile Goue’s “String Trio,” Rodion Shchedrin’s “Three Funny Pieces,” Alfred Schnittke’s “String Quartet No. 3,” and Beethoven’s “Große Fuge Op. 133.”
Point CounterPoint Music Directors Rita Porfiris and Anton Miller will lead the other faculty performers: Ertan Torgul, Jennifer Kloetzel, Karl Orvik and Rodolfo Morales.
Admission to the concert is free. This concert is sponsored by the Middlebury College French, German, and Russian Language Schools.  Donations for this concert will exclusively fund the PCP Scholarship Fund in Honor of Diana and Emory Fanning.
