WalkOver exhibit features talk by artist John Gemignani

BRISTOL — John Gemignani will give an artist’s talk at the WalkOver Gallery in Bristol on Thursday evening, Dec. 12, at 6 p.m. He will talk about his art, work, perspective, subject matter, technique and changes in progressions in his work as an artist. This will be an interesting evening with an established, mature artist.

Ferrisburgh moves voting to its former Grange Hall

FERRISBURGH — Ferrisburgh residents will head to the polls on Tuesday not to Ferrisburgh Central School, the town’s traditional polling place for decades, but instead to Ferrisburgh’s nearby Route 7 town office building.

Changes planned for downtown Bristol intersection

BRISTOL — The crossroad at the heart of Bristol village, where West, South, North and Main streets meet, will undergo improvements next year to make the intersection safer for motorists and pedestrians.

Derrick Lyman of the Vermont Agency of Transportation, Gregory Edwards of Stantec Design, Carol Wells of the Bristol Downtown Community Partnership and Claire Tebbs of the Addison County Regional Planning Commission presented information on the changes at the Bristol selectboard meeting Dec. 2.

Addison planners and selectmen talk zoning

ADDISON — Members of the Addison selectboard will sit down with the Addison Planning Commission on Dec. 16 to discuss the changes the selectboard proposed in November to the planners’ long-awaited update to the town’s zoning laws.

Those changes, made during a Nov. 5 work session, include calling for smaller lots and a reduction in frontage setback requirements in Addison’s Low Density Residential Agricultural (LDRA) zone, the town’s largest.

Wildlife official to discuss deer management in Vermont

NEW HAVEN — Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department Deer Project Leader Adam Murkowski will speak at the New Haven Town Hall on Thursday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m. His presentation, titled “White-tailed Deer Biology, Ecology and Management,” is part of the New Haven Conservation Commission’s Armchair Naturalist Series.

Bank employees, fire department boost Bristol food shelf

BRISTOL — National Bank of Middlebury’s staff recently held a “Casual Jeans Friday” to benefit Bristol’s Have A Heart Community Food Shelf. About once a month the bank holds a “casual wear day” to benefit a nonprofit that the bank cannot make a regular financial commitment to. On these days, staff members are encouraged to give a small amount in order to dress casually.

Penalties by Tiger boys' hockey team help Raiders earn 4-0 shutout

MIDDLEBURY — Visiting Rutland on Saturday defeated the Middlebury Union High School boys’ hockey team, 4-0, in the Tigers’ home opener, taking advantage of five Tiger penalties to score two power-play goals and, in the eyes of MUHS Coach Derek Bartlett, wearing down his team by forcing them to play shorthanded so often.

MUHS girls' hockey cruises to 6-0 win; team is turning on the heat

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Union High School girls’ hockey team enjoyed its home opener on Saturday, cruising to a 6-0 victory over visiting Missisquoi.

The win moved the Division II Tigers to 2-0, with both wins vs. D-I foes: They defeated host Colchester on Wednesday, 3-1.

The early results have the Tigers feeling optimistic, said defender and assistant captain Paige Viens, who believes MUHS will continue to improve.
