ARLAND WILLIAM STEADY

VERGENNES — Arland William Steady passed away in his home surrounded by his family on May 29, 2017 at the age of 92. Arland was a hardworking, humble, loving husband, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend who valued spending time with his wife, Ellen and all of their family.

FERRISBURGH — A graveside service for Diane Seymour will be held 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 17, at Gage Cemetery in Ferrisburgh. A reception will follow at Ferrisburgh Community Center.

E. CALVIN SCHNEIDER

BRISTOL — E. Calvin Schneider, 72, died peacefully of an interstitial lung infection at his home on June 4, 2017, in the house that he and his wife built thirty-five years ago. He was a loving husband, woodworker, gourmet cook, avid birder, reader, graceful skier, tennis player and cyclist. Cal loved traveling, going to Maine, adventures, his friends and being outside.

MARY LOUISE SAWYER BOOSKA KELLER

NAPA, Ca. — Mary Louise Sawyer Booska Keller passed peacefully in Napa, Ca., on May 29, 2017, at the age of 97.

Mary was a proud Vermonter born in New Haven in 1919 and educated at Beeman School in New Haven and Chester Elementary and High School in Chester. She was the daughter of Charles Sawyer of Sawyer Rd., New Haven, sister of Carlton, Gerald, Genevieve and Katherine Sawyer and half-sister of Kenneth Sawyer.

JEFFREY RINGEY

SALISBURY, — Jeffrey Ringey, 55, of Salisbury, died on December 4, 2016. He was born on April 7, 1961, the son of Albert Ringey and Barbara Ringey (Brown).

Jeff graduated from Middlebury Union High School and then studied Automotive Technology at the New Hampshire Vocational Technical College in Manchester, N.H. He was passionate about his career as an automotive technician and spent most of it working for Mazda as a Master Technician.

CHARLES WEBSTER REED

WEST ADDISON — Charles Webster Reed, 99, passed away quietly in his home in West Addison on Wednesday, May 31, 2017.

Charlie was born in Addison on April 20, 1918, the son of Charles Lyon Reed and Lillian Mae Wynne. He was the youngest of four brothers. He worked on the family farm while growing up and attending Vanderhoof school, just up the street from his house. He then attended high school in Vergennes, but did not graduate, instead transferring to the Randolph School of Agriculture for his higher learning.

MARGARET “PEGGY” HILL

ST. ALBANS — On May 30, 2017, Margaret “Peggy” Hill passed away at St. Albans Health and Rehabilitation in St. Albans, Vt., at the age of 93.

Peggy was born on August 8, 1923, in Doylestown, Pa., to Daniel and Florence Patterson. The Patterson’s moved to Vermont, where her father completed his engineering degree at Norwich University in Northfield. Peggy graduated from Northfield High School in 1940. Peggy moved to the Washington, D.C. area in 1958, where she lived and worked until retiring in 1989 and moving back to Vermont.

CHARLES WEBSTER REED

WEST ADDISON — Charles Webster Reed passed away quietly in his home in West Addison on Wednesday, May 31, 2017. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes. A full obituary will appear in Monday’s Addison Independent.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
