MARY ANN KNAPP

BRANDON — Mary Ann Knapp, 80, of Brandon died Thursday, June 19, 2014, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Pemaquid, Maine, on March 29, 1934, the daughter of James and Gladwyne (Curtis) Fuller. Her early years were spent in Maine. In 1945 she moved to Shoreham and graduated from Shoreham High School, class of 1952. Following her marriage in 1954 she moved to Brandon.

MARGARET READ

BRANDON — Margaret Patricia (Langley) Read, age 90, died Thursday, June 19, 2014, at her home in Brandon.

Pat was born in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, on September 23, 1923. She was the daughter of George Swan Langley of Newport, RI, and Cora Adelaid Phipps of Hopkinton, MA. Her mother, Cora, was a descendant of the family of Eleazar Wheelock, who founded Dartmouth College in 1769.

RIPTON — The Rev. Gerald M. Rowe, 93, Pastor Emeritus of the Ilsley Memorial Baptist Church, died peacefully at home in Ripton on Wednesday, June 18, surrounded by his family.

MIDDLEBURY — There will be a memorial for Marjorie Ann Little at Sanderson Funeral Home at 117 South Main St., Middlebury, on Friday, the 27th of June, between 5:30 PM and 8:30 PM ET. Burial Service will be on Saturday the 28th of June at 11:30 AM ET, at the grave site at St. Peters’ Cemetery in Vergennes, VT.

ELINOR W. PIKE

PITTSFORD/MIDDLEBURY — Elinor Willard Pike, 101, a lifelong summer resident and longtime resident of Pittsford, died Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at the Lodge at Otter Creek, Middlebury, where she had resided for the past two and a half years.

Born in Boston, Mass., Jan. 24, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Harrington and Margaret (Willard) Pike.  She was a graduate of Brookline High School, Brookline, Mass., and Bouvé Boston School of Physical Education, class of 1933, now a part of Northeastern University.

GIACOMINA ROY

RUTLAND — A graveside service for Giacomina Marisa Roy, 85, who died Dec. 9, 2013, at her home in Rutland, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2014, in West Barnet Cemetery in West Barnet, Vt. She was the mother of Charles H. Roy Jr. of New Haven.

JEAN PUECHL

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Jean Audrey Puechl, 85, passed away peacefully on the morning of May 30, 2014, with her children at her side.

Jean was born Sept. 11, 1928, in Salisbury, Vt., the third daughter of Sedgwick Preston and Beatrice Ann Devoid. She grew up on a farm in Salisbury and attended the University of Vermont in Burlington, where she studied music education.

EDWARD BEZANSON

PORT ORANGE, Fla. — Edward Donald Bezanson, 55, died in Port Orange, Fla., on Sunday, June 8, 2014, at 3:10 p.m. under hospice care.

He was born in Bristol, Conn., on Feb. 4, 1959. He lived in New Haven, Vt., and other area towns until four or five years ago.

He served in the Army in 1979 and was stationed with his first wife, Kathleen “Kitten” Wells, in Garlstedt, Germany.

FRANCES COOKE

PANTON — Frances Alberta Sperry Cooke, 85, went peacefully with the Lord on Friday, June 13, 2014, surrounded by her family at her home.

Frances was born on Sept. 4, 1928, the daughter of Albert and Muriel (Piper) Sperry. She grew up in Cornwall. She graduated from Middlebury High School in 1946 then attended Castleton State College and taught school in Weybridge, Addison and Bridgewater.

DORIS DEVOID

BRISTOL — Doris Y. DeVoid, 81, died Saturday afternoon, June 14, 2014, at the home of her caregiver, Heather Shepard, after a long illness.

She was born May 8, 1933, in Tinmouth, the daughter of the late James and Susan (Yorke) Coleman. She was raised in Proctor by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lorraine, after her mother took ill, until her marriage to William J. DeVoid on June 24, 1950.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
