DAVID SUGER

ARVADA, Colo. — David Harrison Suger, 54, of Arvada, Colo., died Wednesday, March 16, 2016, after an illness.

Dave was a 1985 graduate of Middlebury College and earned a master’s degree from Bread Loaf School of English in 1992. He was born in Ardmore, Pa., on Aug. 28, 1961, the third of four children of Richard and Susan (Powers) Suger. Dave attended Chatham Township High School in New Jersey, excelling academically and athletically.

ELEANOR YOUNG

MIDDLEBURY — Eleanor H. Young (Ellie) died surrounded by her devoted family at Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center on Friday, March 18, 2016.

She was born on Sept. 19, 1923, in Ticonderoga, N.Y., the daughter of Bradford and Hazel (Sellingham) Catlin.

She attended school in Ticonderoga, where she liked to play soccer. She graduated in the class of 1942. This is where she met and married the love her life, Ronnie Holmes.

GERALD RHEAUME SR.

STARKSBORO — Gerald R. Rheaume Sr., 86, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 17, 2016, at home surrounded by his family.

He was born May 25, 1929, in Weybridge to Alfred Aime and Irene Gertrude (Desrocher) Rheaume.

He joined the Army April 10, 1955, where he met his wife, Ethel Louise Sederburg. They married May 5, 1956, in Kenmore, N.Y. After marriage, Gerald and Louise moved back to Vermont where they had two children and raised their family in Starksboro.

JAMES ROWE SR.

CASTLETON — James Albert Rowe Sr., 86, of Castleton died Tuesday evening, March 8, 2016, at the Mountain View Center in Rutland.

He was born on Feb. 19, 1930, in Framingham, Mass., the son of James H. and Isabelle (Oakes) Rowe.

Mr. Rowe grew up in Woodsville, N.H., graduating from the Woodsville High School in 1948. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, being honorably discharged in 1952.

He married Barbara Downer on July 24, 1954.

RICHARD WELCH

MINEVILLE, N.Y. — Richard “Dick” G. Welch, 80, of Mineville, N.Y., passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2016, at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, Vt.

He was born June 6, 1935, in Burlington, the son of Robert Aaron Welch and Mildred (Cobb) Welch.

He was a self-employed master electrician. He also worked for J.W. and D.E. Ryan in Vergennes, Vt., and Basin Harbor Club in Ferrisburgh, Vt.

HELEN BARROWS

VERGENNES—Helen M. Barrows, 74, died Monday, March 14, 2016, at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.

She was born May 27, 1941, in Lincoln, daughter of Charles and Arlene Dow Clark.

She is survived by her husband, Clifford Barrows; children Pam Barrows and Patricia Clark; grandson Michael Clark and wife Ashley; three sisters; two brothers; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son Clifford Barrows Jr.

JEFFREY CROSSMAN

MIDDLEBURY — Jeffrey Alan Crossman, 69, died Sunday, March 13, 2016, at Porter Medical Center after a long illness.

He was born April 29, 1946, in Middlebury, the son of Washington and Barbara (Brown) Crossman. Jeffrey was brought up by his grandparents Milton “Mitt” and Gladys Brown, who he lived with and took care of until her death.

He was a graduate of Middlebury High School class of 1965, and worked at Brush Motors and Bill Ryan’s Chevrolet in Brandon while attending high school.

BARBARA MARSHALL

BRIDPORT — Barbara H. Marshall, 82, a Bridport resident since 1951, died Friday, March 11, 2016, at Shard Villa in Salisbury.

Born May 2, 1933, in Middletown, Conn., she was the daughter of the late Theodore J. and Mildred (Mitchell) Hartke. Barbara married George W. Marshall on Aug. 18, 1951, and together they operated Deerwood Farm in Bridport, raising registered Holsteins, for many years.

She was of the Episcopalian faith.

FLORENCE 'DOLLY' MOZZER

BRANDON — Florence “Dolly” E. (Keenan) Mozzer, 97, died March 11, 2016, at Wintergreen North Residential Care Home in Brandon.

She was born in Bristol, Conn., on Aug. 17, 1918. Her parents were Andrew Stevenson and Dorothy Dowds. At about 6 months old, her father and her 3-year-old sister died the same day of the flu epidemic. Dolly was adopted by her aunt and uncle, Deborah Dowds and Michael Keenan, as her mother felt she could not care for her and two other children.

ORRIN SUNDERLAND

MIDDLEBURY — Orrin P. Sunderland, age 77, went home to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, March 10, 2016, in Middlebury.

Orrin was born in Bridport on March 13, 1938, the son of Alanson and Sadie (Clark) Sunderland. He grew up in Bridport and graduated from Middlebury High School in the class of 1957. He married Wanda Boynton in 1962. The couple lived in Bridport for a few years and moved to East Middlebury in 1972.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
