Middlebury Police Log: Man cited with 'ecstasy' possession

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Binh Tat, 20, of Worcester, Mass., for possession and distribution of the drug “ecstasy,” following a stop for speeding on Court Street on Nov. 2. Upon questioning, police said Tat admitted to having smoked marijuana earlier that evening. Police said their search of the vehicle revealed a jar, concealed in the gas cap, containing approximately four ounces of ecstasy. Police said Tat was lodged at the Addison County Sheriff’s Department on $2,500 bail.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

  Were informed that a check had been stolen from a room in Middlebury College’s Sunderland Hall on Oct. 31.

  Received a report that an iPod and $25 in cash had been stolen from two separate backpacks in the Middlebury Union High School girls’ locker room on Oct. 31.

  Responded to a report of someone burning garbage in a Halladay Road residential driveway on Oct. 31.

  Cited James R. Thurston, 22, of Middlebury for lewd and lascivious conduct, following an alleged incident on Main Street on Oct. 31. Police said the victim is an 18-year-old woman.

  Removed a drunk, unruly man from a Seymour Street residence on Oct. 31.

  Responded to a family dispute at a South Village Green residence on Oct. 31.

  Took a truant student to MUHS on Nov. 1.

  Got counseling for an MUHS student who was allegedly threatening teachers on Nov. 1.

  Cited Joseph A. Wedge, Jr., 27, of Bristol for aggravated assault, after he allegedly punched a man near the Blue Spruce Motel on Route 7 South on Nov. 1.

  Warned a local woman to stop sending harassing text messages to another woman on Nov. 1.

  Warned a telemarketer to stop calling Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center on Nov. 2.

  Responded to a reported verbal dispute between two women at a Newton Drive residence on Nov. 3.

  Investigated a complaint of mischief and underage smoking at the teen center in Middlebury’s municipal building on Nov. 3. Police said some youths had broken some plastic bottles of juice and soda at the entrance of the teen center, as well as inside.

  Received a report that a cell phone was stolen from a MUHS staff member on Nov. 4. Police said someone had racked up more than $830 in charges on the phone.

  Investigated a reported accident at the Porter Hospital loading dock off South Street on Nov. 4. Police said a truck had hit the loading dock, causing some damage and an injury to a person on site.

  Responded to an attempted break-in at a Court Street office on Nov. 4.

  Were informed that someone had stolen a purse from a grocery cart outside of Hannaford Supermarket on Nov. 4.

  Ticketed a youth who allegedly tried to use a fake identification card to buy alcohol at Hannaford Supermarket on Nov. 4.

  Cited Brian A. Blaise, 46, of Whiting for driving under the influence, following an investigation in the Battell Woods pull-off on Seminary Street Extension on Nov. 5. Police said they measured Blaise’s blood-alcohol content at 0.118 percent; the legal limit for driving is 0.08 percent.

  Investigated a report of someone stealing a car from the Ossie Road area and parking it, with damage, near the Lord’s Prayer Rock off Route 116 in Bristol.

  Took into protective custody a very drunk woman who was found wandering around the Middlebury Inn parking lot on Nov. 5.

  Investigated an alleged assault in the parking area off Elm Street on Nov. 5.

  Ticketed an underage drinker found stumbling near Middlebury College’s Ridgeline Road student housing on Nov. 6.

  Responded to a report of an out-of-control youth at a Gorham Lane residence on Nov. 6.
