LINCOLN - Just like that, another Hill Country Holiday weekend is in the books. Thank you to Lincoln Sports and the organizers of all the fun events. Taco Night helped raise money for the LCS 5/6 play. During movie night at the church, I enjoyed listening to the kids laugh at all the funny parts in one of my all-time favorite movies, “Cool Runnings.”

The winners of Military Whist were Jenn Buker, Steve Buker, Grayson Connel and Preston Connel. Jacob and I participated in our first HCH parade along with his friend James. With Olympic music playing, we waved to the crowd and took it all in. Following the parade, everyone warmed up with some hot soup and bread sponsored by the library. The preschool’s spaghetti dinner was a big success and the Best Meatball Award went to Cubbers.

The variety show was entertaining, as always. It was nice to have “judges” from all the areas of Lincoln scoring each act. For the first time a cash prize was awarded for the best act. The judges had a hard time choosing just one winner, so the gold medal winning performances were Natalie Smith, Grayson Connel and Anthony Kessler. After a night of laughs, everyone came together Sunday morning for a tasty pancake breakfast provided by Lincoln Sports. Many kids enjoyed LEGO building at Burnham Hall to round out the weekend. What a wonderful display of community and Olympic spirit.

News from 3/4 teachers, Anna & Devon on behalf of LCS: Lincoln Community School will be holding its annual celebration of culture on Friday, Feb. 16. LCS 3rd and 4th graders have spent the past six weeks exploring Japan’s culture. The study began with an intensive week of Taiko under Sensei Stuart Patton of Burlington Taiko, made possible by the Tari Shattuck Foundation, Friends of LCS and the Vermont Arts Council.

Join them for a Japanese lunch at noon. Cost is $5.00 for adults and $2.50 for children. Contact Deirdre at 802-453-2119 or [email protected] to make a reservation. The festivities, beginning at 1 p.m., will demonstrate students learning. Presentations and exhibits will showcase traditional arts — shibori dyeing, origami, fan dance, tea ceremony, food, theater, gardening and modern robotics. Thanks to support from Neat Repeats and talented volunteers, students have had a very rich experience of Japanese culture.

Volunteers included Kathryn and Sam Wyatt, Gail Martin, Mark Johnson, John Wetzel of Stone House Tea, Josie Jordan, MaryBeth Stilwell, Ron Yaro, Kyoko Davis and Middlebury College students.

On Saturday, Feb. 10, the Burnham Music Series will present Alex Smith with Fiddler Jacob Brillhart at Burnham Hall from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Tickets are $10  for adults. Teens and kids are free.

The Lincoln Library will host another children’s after school craft on Valentine’s Day, Wednesday, Feb. 14. Join them at 3:15 p.m. for a fun pop-up card making activity. Due to overwhelming popularity, please sign up ahead of time at the library or email [email protected].

REMINDER: The Preschool will host an Open House for new families Thursday, Feb. 15, from 5-7:30 p.m.

Until next time…Take A Chance. Love Much. Never Give Up.
