Jumping on the blogging bandwagon
A contingent of Addy Indy staffers (not to mention a few of our friends from the Brandon Reporter) headed off for a hoppin’ few days at the New England Press Association conference in Boston about a week ago — and boy oh boy, did we learn a lot. There was something for everyone, the talk of the town (or at least the talk of the conference hall) all revolved around how newspapers can better serve their readers online. So we bring you the Addy Indy blog, another way for you to connect to the newspaper and its readers online. Now, I know most of you love reading the paper in print, and so do I. This isn’t meant to replace your twice-a-week dose of all things Addison County, available on newsstands or at a mailbox near you.Nor is it meant to replace the rest of our Web site, where you can read up on the community calendar, check the classifieds twice a week, and find our leading stories. What the blog does offer, though, is a place to check in for more frequent updates on news around the county and the state. We’ll have tips on recreation and events around the county, and spotlights on local citizens. Look for some of these features in the weeks and months ahead:

News digests. Look for curated news updates on happenings around town, state and country that have meaning for life at home in Addison County.
Readers’ photos. We’ll be setting up a Flickr account in the next few weeks where readers can submit and share photographs with their neighbors.
Liveblogging and Twitter. Look for blow by blow accounts of the events that matter to you — Town Meeting Day results, school board meetings and local lectures.
Audio and visual slideshows. Look for more of the award-winning photographs that you love, accompanied by great interviews.
But more important than what we have in mind is what you have in mind. So tell me: what do you want to see in this space in the weeks ahead? Feel free to comment, or send me a line at [email protected].
