Hospice staff commit to education goals

MIDDLEBURY — Sherry P. Greifzu, MSN, AOCN, APN, interim executive director and director of clinical services at Addison County Home Health and Hospice in Middlebury announces that four managers at ACHHH have recently obtained Outcome and Assessment Information Set (OASIS) education and certification. OASIS was developed by Medicare to assist the home care industry in assessing patient needs and measuring patient outcomes in an effort to continuously improve care.

Mount Abe dedicates yearbook to school nutrition staff

BRISTOL — In a ceremony at the Mount Abraham Union High School auditorium on May 27, students at the Bristol school dedicated this year’s yearbook to the child nutrition specialists who work in the cafeteria and kitchen.

Carol Roscoe, the Eagle Café manager, addressed the assembly, giving her thanks for the honor.

“There are many awards that our child nutrition staff could strive for but none means more than this one,” she said. “We are about good nutrition but even more we care about you — and all students.”

Summer brings heat dangers for pets

With temperatures on the rise, many people don’t realize that our pets can have trouble with heat too. If you think it’s hot outside, imagine wearing a fur coat in this heat. In addition, our pets have very limited ways of cooling themselves. Pets pant and that’s about it.

Lawmakers endorse 'fix' to solar siting bill

MONTPELIER — The state Legislature emerged from a marathon special session on Thursday with an amended version of a renewable energy siting bill that had been vetoed by Gov. Peter Shumlin on June 6.

The governor said on Friday that he would sign the bill, known as S.260, designed to give more local control over the siting of solar projects to communities that develop energy plans that are consistent with the state’s long-term renewable energy goals.

Bristol dentist tells stories of life farming the Great Plains

BRISTOL — Bristol dentist Jim Cossaart will be flying to Kansas this weekend, as he does several times a year, to repair barbed wire fences and move some cows around.

The Cossaart family has been farming and ranching on the same piece of Kansas soil since 1870.

Organizers are putting final touches on plan for Middlebury dog park

Veteran educator Suzy Way to explore new horizons after retiring from Monkton Central

MONKTON — Retiring Monkton Central School teacher Suzy Way is planning big adventures in the coming years, including travel to places like Egypt, Morocco, England, Brazil and Germany. That same sense of adventure, enthusiasm for broader horizons and eagerness to learn about new things and new places lights up in her eyes when she talks about her students.

“They’re always eager to learn about the world,” said Way.
