ADDISON COUNTY — One prominent woman candidate did very well in Addison County on Election Day and another fell just short of her challenger, but both Democratic standard bearers — Hillary Clinton and Sue Minter — ultimately lost their bids for high office.

Hillary Clinton, the first woman to be nominated for the presidency by a major party, crushed her Republican rival in Addison County. With votes available in all county towns but Bridport and Granville, Clinton tallied 10,842 to Trump’s 4,784.

BRISTOL — It's unofficial, but we are told by reasonably good sources that incumbent state Reps. Fred Baser (R) and Dave Sharpe (D) have been re-elected to their seats in the Addison-4 Vermont House district.

ADDISON COUNTY — Finally!

Election Day arrives on Tuesday, Nov. 8. Vermonters will head to their polling places — most open at 7 a.m. and all of them close at 7 p.m.

For the first time, voting in Middlebury will time take place at the town’s new recreation facility on Creek Road.

Addison County poll watchers said early voting was very strong over the past few weeks, which is no surprise given the presidential election and competitive races for some statewide offices, most local House seats and Addison County’s two Senate seats.

Forests and phosphorus reduction in Lake Champlain

Posted on November 7, 2016 |
By Gaen Murphree

ADDISON COUNTY — The Environmental Protection Agency has estimated that forest lands account for about 16 percent of the phosphorus going into Lake Champlain for the entire Vermont portion of the lake.

In the Otter Creek watershed, the watershed that covers most of Addison County, the figure is estimated to be just slightly higher, at 17.1 percent. This slightly higher number reflects the portion of the Otter Creek watershed that is forested, which the Department of Environmental Conservation gauges at around 60 percent.
